The Association of Regions of Morocco (ARM) held an emergency meeting in Rabat, devoted to examining the situation of drought and the shortage of water resources experienced by the different regions of the Kingdom, due to the scarcity of rain this year.
This meeting, held on August 8, was an opportunity for the presidents of the regional councils to measure the impact of water stress on the agricultural sector and livestock breeding, while affirming the need to ensure the supply of the population with drinking water, said a press release from the ARM on Thursday.
Given the priority nature of the issue, the statement added, the president of the Association and the presidents of the regional councils welcomed the efforts made by the government, under the wise leadership of HM King Mohammed VI, to find effective solutions. to water scarcity. In this context, each regional council has mobilized, in partnership with the departments concerned, a substantial budget in order to mitigate the current crisis at the regional, rural and urban levels.
This meeting was also an opportunity, according to the same source, to exchange views and propose possible solutions that will have direct positive impacts on the water supply for the population and livestock. The presidents of the regional councils thus undertook to federate their efforts, in a framework of complementarity and solidarity between the regions, while calling for close coordination with the government to find radical and structural solutions and to take urgent measures in the face of this situation.
Emphasis was placed, in this context, on the need to simplify administrative procedures in order to implement water projects as quickly as possible, and to involve the councils of the regions, alongside the government departments concerned, in research solutions to overcome the consequences of drought.
It was thus agreed to hold a meeting with the head and members of the government to examine this question in more detail as well as the approach to be followed in the implementation of the measures and related recommendations.
