Moroccan athletes won two gold and two bronze medals on the last day of athletics events on Friday as part of the 5th Islamic Solidarity Games taking place in Konya, Turkey.
Thus, Abdellatif Sadiki won the gold medal in the 1500m with a time of 3min 54sec 51/100, while the national team engaged in the men’s 4 × 400m relay won the precious metal with a time of 3min 03sec. 76/100.
The bronze went to the athlete Soukaina Hajji, third at the end of the 1500m event, with a time of 4min 16sec 65/100, while a women’s quartet also won the bronze medal in 4 × 400m with a time of 3min 35sec 86/100.
In a statement to the press, the gold medalist in 1500m, Abdellatif Sadiki indicated that the race was tactical, adding that the instructions given by his trainer allowed him to achieve this positive result.
“Faced with high-level athletes and the strong wind, I decided to wait for the opportune moment to take the lead in the race, which I kept until the end of the event”, he said. he explains.
For his part, the athlete Hamza Dair, member of the quartet who won the gold medal in the 4×400 m underlined that this medal is the result of the collective work of the athletes and the coach.
He noted that despite his delay in the last 400m, he managed to overcome it to win the race, expressing his joy to offer Morocco this consecration.
In total, Morocco gleaned 14 medals at the end of the athletics events of the Islamic Solidarity Games: 4 in gold, 3 in silver and 7 in bronze.
