more than 4.5 million passengers in July 2022

More than 4.5 million travelers chose the train for their journeys in July 2022, an increase of 30% compared to the same period in 2021, according to the National Railway Office (ONCF).

The Office ended the month of July with an exceptional growth trend in passenger activity, with more than 4.5 million passengers transported, i.e. an overall increase of 30% compared to the same period in 2021, and 20% compared to 2019, the reference year before Covid, indicates an ONCF press release, noting that the recovery is confirmed and augurs for an unprecedented summer.

This growth is even more marked on “Al boraq” trains, the evolution of which exceeds 55% compared to the same period in 2021 and 40% compared to 2019, says the ONCF. It thus confirms the success of this new icon of mobility with travellers, thanks to its undeniable advantages in terms of reduced journey times, enhanced on-board comfort, maintained punctuality and very attractive prices.

This first assessment also highlights historical record days recording the transport of 182,000 passengers/day, including more than 20,000/day for the “Al boraq” trains alone. Anticipating this strong demand with the relaunch of post-Covid activity, the ONCF has deployed a special Summer 2022 system, which is based on the programming of more than 232 trains/day, including 30 “Al Boraq” trains in circulation. every day in both directions, and the strengthening of capacities on the main axes of the rail network as well as the doubling of 10 “Al boraq” trains (i.e. a train doubled every 3 hours offering a capacity of 1066 seats), notes the press release.

On the other hand, the special ONCF summer 2022 plan includes a strong mobilization of all the Office’s human and material resources, which has made it possible to better support and assist travelers throughout their journey in the station and on board trains, while ensuring the best conditions of comfort, safety and regularity, including during the Aid Al Adha period.

Complementing this summer plan, the ONCF makes the train even more accessible to all segments of its customers through very competitive fare offers for family, group or individual trips as well as for Moroccans residing abroad (MRE ). These offers adapt to all the needs of customers and allow them to take full advantage of their holidays at reduced prices, concludes the press release.
