The Confederation of African Football (CAF) drew lots for the preliminary rounds of the African Champions League for the 2022-2023 season on Tuesday in Cairo.
Thus, the first leg matches of the first preliminary round will be played from September 9 to 11, while the return matches from September 16 to 18.
For the account of the first round, the Egyptians of Zamalek (Egypt) will face Alik Sport (Chad), the US Monastir (Tunisia) confronted the APR (Rwanda), the Cotton Sport (Benin) will dispute the ASEC (Côte d’ ivory), while the Sudanese of Al Hilal and Al Merreikh will respectively face Saint-Georges (Ethiopia) and Arta Solar (Djibouti).
The two teams representing Morocco, defending champions Wydad de Casablanca and Raja de Casablanca have been exempted from playing the first preliminary round matches, in addition to Al Ahly (Egypt), Espérance de Tunis (Tunisia ), TP Mazembe (DRC) and Mamelodi Sundowns (South Africa).
Wydad will face in the second preliminary round the winner of the match Rivers United (Nigeria) against Watanga FC (Liberia), while the greens of Raja, will play against the quality of the match between AS Nigelec, champion of Niger, and SOAR, champion of Guinea.
The Egyptians of Al Ahly, 10 times champions of this competition, will face in the second round the winner of the match between Monastir and APR, while Espérance ST will play against the Gabonese of Stade Mandji or the Nigerians of Plateau United.
The first round matches will take place on October 7 and 8, while the return will be played on the 14 and 16 of the same month.
The group stage matches will start on February 10, 2023 and end between March 31 and April 2.
The quarter-finals will take place from April 21 to 23 (outward) and from April 28 to 30 (return). As for the semi-finals, they are scheduled between May 12 and 14, for the first leg matches and May 19 and 21 for the return matches, while the final match will be played between June 2 and 11, 2023.
