National security elements operating in the Tanger-Med port area succeeded on Tuesday afternoon, on the basis of precise information provided by the General Directorate for Territorial Surveillance (DGST), in defeating an attempt to international traffic of 17,970 “Rivotril” type psychotropic tablets, indicates a press release from the General Directorate of National Security (DGSN).
This cargo of psychotropic substances was seized during a control operation carried out by elements of the National Security on board a trailer truck for international transport of goods registered in Morocco, immediately after its arrival from a Spanish port, according to the press release, which specifies that the cargo was carefully concealed inside cavities arranged in the trailer which was loaded with imported electronic equipment.
The search and investigation procedures also led to the arrest of the truck driver, a 37-year-old Moroccan, who was taken into police custody for the purposes of the investigation carried out under the supervision of the competent prosecutor’s office in order to determine the ramifications local and international of this criminal activity, underlines the same source.
This security operation takes place within the framework of the intense efforts made by the services of the DGSN and the DGST to fight against the international trafficking of narcotics and psychotropic drugs, as well as the various forms of cross-border crime.
