133,000 jobs created in Q2-2022

The national economy created 133,000 jobs in the second quarter of 2022 (Q2-2022), which corresponds to an increase of 1%, according to the High Commission for Planning (HCP).

“The national economy created 133,000 jobs in the second quarter of 2022, which corresponds to an increase of 1%, resulting from the creation of 285,000 jobs in urban areas (+5%) and a loss of 152,000 in rural areas (-3%)”, indicates the HCP which has just published an information note relating to the situation of the labor market in Q2-2022. By type of employment, 299,000 paid employment positions were created, resulting from the creation of 307,000 in urban areas and a loss of 8,000 in rural areas, specifies the same source, adding that unpaid employment has decreased by 166,000 jobs, i.e. a loss of 144,000 in rural areas and 22,000 in urban areas.

This note also shows that the activity rate fell by 0.9 points, compared to the same period of 2021, to stand at 45.2%, explaining this decline by the increase in the population of old age. of activity (15 years and over) of 1.4 and the drop in the active population of 1%. This decline is more pronounced in rural areas (-2.1 points), dropping from 52.9% to 50.8%, than in urban areas (-0.3 points), dropping from 42.6% to 42, 3%. The decline concerned more women (-1.2 points), going from 22.5% to 21.3% than men (-0.7 points), from 70.6% to 69.9%.

The employment rate, meanwhile, stagnated at 40.2% nationally. It increased by 0.8 point in urban areas (from 34.9% to 35.7%) and fell by 1.7 point in rural areas (from 50.4% to 48.7%). This rate increased among men (+0.7 points) and fell among women (-0.9 points).
