Wydad and Hakimi in the running for the CAF Awards (full list)

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has released its list of nominees for the men’s categories of the CAF Awards 2022. Several representatives of Morocco are nominated in the final list.

Moroccans are expected to win titles during this mass of African football which will take place in Morocco on July 21.

The categories include the best African players, teams, or coaches who have shone in the last season.

The title of best African player of 2022 is disputed by ten players, in particular by Achraf Hakimi (Morocco / PSG), Riyad Mahrez (Algeria / Manchester City), Sadio Mane (Senegal / Bayern Munich) title holder in 2019, and Mohamed Salah (Egypt and Liverpool).

This category is dominated by Senegalese candidates who are a total of 3 (Edouard Mendy,
Kalidou Koulibaly, Sadio Mané), followed by Cameroon with 2 nominees Karl Toko Ekambi and Vincent Aboubacar.

A total of 10 players are also nominated in the Interclubs Player of the Year category, while 5 are nominated for the Young Player of the Year, Coach of the Year, National Team of the Year and Club of the Year.

Moroccan Walid Regragui is a finalist for the title of CAF Coach of the Year alongside Aliou Cissé, Pitso Mosimane, Carlos Queiroz and Tom Saintfiet.

Wydad players Achraf Dari, Yahya Jabrane, Zouheir El Moutaraji are nominated in the Interclub Player of the Year category alongside several Al Ahly players.

In the National Team of the Year category, the Atlas Lions are also finalists and are competing for the title with Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Senegal and Egypt.

Finally, the Club of the Year title is disputed by RS Berkane, Wydad as well as Petro Atlético (Angola), Al Ahly (Egypt) and Orlando Pirates (South Africa).
