Water cuts: The municipality of Casablanca provides clarifications

The municipality of Casablanca has denied all the information circulating about the cut in drinking water from 11 p.m. to 8 a.m. and the freezing of activities that depend mainly on water.

Following information circulating in certain media and social networks about the holding of a meeting on Monday July 25, 2022 on the measures to be taken to deal with water stress, in particular the question of cutting off drinking water from 11 p.m. to 8 a.m. and the freezing of the activities of certain trades which depend essentially on water, the Municipality of Casablanca informs public opinion that this information is false and devoid of any foundation.

While denying this information, the Commune reminds the people of Casablanca that in the face of the very critical water situation characterized by very low filling rates of the dams at the level of the majority of the hydraulic basins of Morocco, it is imperative to fight against waste. water, and to refrain from any form of waste in order to preserve water resources and ensure an equitable distribution of this vital commodity.

As a reminder, the Minister of the Interior sent a circular to the Walis and Governors in order to implement the actions necessary for rational water management, calling on officials to urgently bring together the prefectural and provincial Commissions set up by the Article 89 of Law 36-15 relating to water, with a view to implementing the actions necessary for the rational management of water resources and guaranteeing the supply of drinking water to the population.

The services of the city of Casablanca have been working in close collaboration, for more than 3 months, with the Wilaya of the Casablanca region, the Lydec, the hydraulic basin and the external services to put in place a strategy for the rational use of water resources which will soon be officially published.
