One death and 20 minor injuries among the FAR contingent

A soldier belonging to the contingent of the Royal Armed Forces (FAR), deployed in the Democratic Republic of Congo (MONUSCO), died on Tuesday, said a press release from the General Staff of the FAR.

The deceased succumbed to his injuries caused by gunfire during rebel attacks on several deployment sites of the FAR contingent, taking advantage of an aggressive demonstration by the local population against the presence of MONUSCO, which occurred on July 25 and 26, specifies the same source.

These attacks, it is added, also caused 20 minor injuries among the soldiers of the FAR contingent at the NYAMILIMA site, who were immediately taken care of.

All measures have been taken to ensure the security and protection of the deployment sites of the FAR contingent. Also, the necessary steps have been taken for the repatriation of the remains of the deceased before his burial during an official ceremony, the statement concludes.
