Marrakech ranked 7th best city in the world by Time Out magazine

The British magazine Time Out, known for its annual rankings of the best cities in the world, ranked the mythical Marrakech as the 7th best in 2022 out of a total of 53 selected cities.

The magazine, which helps millions of tourists explore the best potential of cities around the world by providing addresses, ratings and places to discover, ranked the Moroccan city as the 7th best city in the world after a vote of 20,000 people.

Among the cities that have been ranked at the TOP of the podium are Edinburgh, for the beauty of its architecture and its pedestrian streets, the city of Chicago for its new restaurant addresses, the Colombian city of MedellĂ­n for its rhythmic reggaeton nights and Glasgow for its vegetarian restaurants.

In 5th position, comes the Dutch city of Amsterdam, which stands out for its artistic scenes, its relaxed atmosphere, and in 6th position before Marrakech, is the city of Prague, for its ease of access, its security.

Concerning Marrakech, the magazine Time Out underlined the character of community, of the creativity of the city.

“The city has long been known as an international melting pot, but the lockdown has created space for local entrepreneurs to muscle up by opening cool new shops” and restaurants, the magazine says.

The publication highlights the return of music festivals with several headlining artists, and adds that it is not “no wonder visitors can’t wait to come back.”

And to invite tourists to visit the galleries of modern and African art, to have lively evenings on the roofs. “Visit now because the cultural capital of Morocco is booming right now.”

According to polls, Marrakech is ranked as the city with the most potential for making new friends, with the highest percentage in the world. “68% of respondents said it was easy to meet new people”the highest in the world and 70% for making new friends.

This year, the magazine focused on cities where there is life, including nightlife, relations with neighbors, “really cool” neighborhoods.

“The idea is to create a holistic snapshot of city life and direct people to the places that locals really love”Time Out said, continuing that they wanted “learn about the restaurant scene and bar circuit, theater and art galleries, nightlife and dating apps”.

In addition, the “covid” factor was also a determining factor since during the last two rankings, it was taken into account. The list focused on how cities have come together during the pandemic and made life (roughly) tolerable during lockdowns, the same source says.

“After two years of travel restrictions, the world is opening up again and we, like you, can’t wait to get back there”and so things like community spirit and resilience were two of the most important factors last year, and this year it’s cities “with a thriving nightlife, amazing food and drink, and an abundance of art, culture and museums” which have been chosen.

In addition, the ranking highlighted places “that are not boring, overpriced or overrated” in addition to good results for practical elements like walking, good public transport and safety, as well as durability.
