Is it really hard to be green?

Becoming green simply means living your everyday life while changing certain habits, in order to protect the environment and preserve it for future generations.

Becoming green is knowing full well that there is no planet Earth 2.O, and that things are simple: We need our environment to survive, we are destroying it slowly, so we have to repair that. And yes, it’s easy, doable, and it only requires one thing: to get started!

But when you don’t know the “why” and the “how” of the thing, going green can be seen as a ridiculous, difficult or even useless task.

Why is it important to go green?

By going green, we create a healthier environment for all living creatures, both current and future generations. When we strive to live an environmentally friendly lifestyle, we greatly reduce the impact of temperature extremes and climate change that can be brought on by global warming.

With a greener planet, we can expect better air, environmental and food quality, we are more likely to be healthier, and enjoy life longer.

The more we do our part, the faster we will create a whole life ecology that promotes sustainability. The first step is to begin by understanding the basics of what each part of life can do to become more environmentally friendly. The next step is to learn to make different choices on a personal level, in order to alter one’s consciousness and consumption of resources. The changes are surprisingly easy to make; there are more ways than you can imagine!

Between person, community and green business

The green person

The green person is one who goes through life being aware of how natural resources are used to create and sustain the life they lead. It recycles, conserves water and fuel, and makes other choices that not only reduce its impact on the environment, but also support industries that strive to be more environmentally friendly.

The green community

Green communities are those that are committed to conserving resources, working to encourage options such as community playgrounds, public transportation or green building, and trying to change the way fossil fuels and other resources are used to support community services.

Green businesses

A green company is a company whose activities are respectful of the environment. It uses products made from recycled materials (recycled plastic office supplies, recycled rubber furniture, etc.), improves its sustainability while reducing its impact on the environment, and above all, does not hide behind the shenanigans and the green labels of Greenwashing.

A few first steps to becoming green

Reduce the use of plastic plastics

Avoid buying any type of plastic, whether in the form of bottles or other containers, as it is one of the most contaminating elements, knowing that they take thousands of years to degrade if they are not recycled or reused. With these tips, you will have a touch of eco-consciousness in your daily life.

Make green purchases

Buy organic products, like eco-friendly backpacks made with 100% recycled materials. It’s a growing trend, but it’s very difficult to adopt. You can apply it not only when you go to the supermarket but also when shopping for clothes, as many ready-to-wear brands have started adopting eco-friendly measures while manufacturing their products.

sort the waste

Many people are already following the recycling fashion, and so much the better! Recently, even governments are actively participating in this movement and encouraging it. The only thing necessary is to know how to sort your waste: recyclable materials (paper, cardboard, plastic, glass and metal, etc.) will go in a certain container and you will have to make sure that they are clean and dry. Materials that cannot be recycled (food scraps, dirty plastic, broken glass, etc.) will go in another container.

Save electricity at home

It’s one of the first things many of us are taught to do to be kind to the environment, although we all need to remember how important it is to do things like turn off the lights when we leave. a play. Anything that runs on electricity requires the use of energy produced in power plants. These plants typically burn coal or fossil fuels, which produce emissions that can cloud the air and make it harder for us to breathe. So turn off the lights you don’t need, and don’t forget to turn off your computers too.

All in all, we conserve water, we drive less and we walk more, we consume less energy, we buy recycled products, we eat locally grown vegetables, we create less waste, and why not even plant a tree? !

Remember that we should protect our environment because we need it and not the other way around, and on a personal level that doesn’t take much. A small gesture for Man, but a huge gesture for the planet!
