Ibrahimovic extends the adventure with AC Milan

Swedish striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic extended his adventure with AC Milan for a year on Monday despite his age and a convalescence that will keep him away from the field until the start of 2023.

“AC Milan is pleased to announce the renewal of Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s contract until June 30, 2023. The Swedish striker will continue to wear number 11”announced the Lombard club, in a press release.

The recovery of AC Milan for two years owes a lot to “Ibra”, who returned in 2020 in the red and black tunic with which he had won the last league title, in 2011, during his first visit (2010 -2012).

Despite doubts about his physical condition and an age when the majority of attackers hang up their crampons, Ibrahimovic took charge of a Milanese team in reconstruction, built on young players, and brought ambition back into the locker room by claiming from his arrival he wanted to bring back to the top he “Diavolo”, the nickname of the club.

This role of leader – main relay of coach Stefano Pioli – remained essential, even if the striker passed in particular by Ajax Amsterdam, Juventus, FC Barcelona, Paris SG or Manchester United, ultimately played little last season, handicapped by several Achilles tendon injuries and a sore left knee.

At the end of the season, suffering and frustrated by too short playing time, he went to an operating table to rebuild his anterior cruciate ligament, an operation that has become essential after months of ordeal.

If Milan willingly offers him an additional year, given his record of service, his salary has been significantly reduced and includes many variable parts due to his participation and performance next season, according to the Italian press.
