Fires in Larache: Sadiki visits the affected areas

The Minister of Agriculture, Maritime Fisheries, Rural Development and Water and Forests, Mohammed Sadiki, went on Monday to the province of Larache to inquire about the situation after the forest fires that occurred in the region.

In the Tangier-Tetouan-Al Hoceima Region, the fires affected the four provinces of Larache, Tetouan, Ouezzane and Chefchaouen over a total area of nearly 9200 HA.

The tireless efforts of the intervention teams, combining the water and forest services, civil protection, the royal armed forces, the royal gendarmerie and the auxiliary forces, made it possible to control all the outbreaks in the four provinces. The population mobilized alongside the intervention teams and several land and air resources were put in place to control the flames fanned by high temperatures and violent gusts of wind.

The forest fires declared in the north of the Kingdom since July 13 have destroyed approximately 9,200 HA in the four provinces, including 7,800 HA in the municipality of L’qolla alone.

In addition, the fires affected areas of fruit tree plantations and destroyed many traditional and modern hives placed in the affected forests.

To mitigate the impact of the fire on agricultural and forestry activity and come to the aid of the populations concerned, the Ministry of Agriculture, Maritime Fisheries, Rural Development and Water and Forests has set up a cell at the central level and cells at the local level in coordination with the regional, provincial and local authorities to establish the inventory and assess the extent of the impact, in order to implement urgent adequate measures to support the populations and set up projects for the development and rehabilitation of affected ecosystems, within the framework of an overall government programme.

During this visit, Sadiki was accompanied by the governor of the province of Larache Bouassam El Alamine, the President of the regional council, Omar Moro, the President of the provincial council, Abdelhakim El Ahmadi, the President of the commune Boujadiane, Mustapha Boukaja, the President of the commune of Tatoft, Mohamed El Mansouri and the President of the commune of L’qolla, Taoufik El Ahmadi.
