90 hectares ravaged by forest fires in Tetouan

Local authorities in the Tetouan region indicated that efforts have been continuing since Thursday, July 14, 2022, to extinguish the fire that broke out in the forest of Bani Idir, commune of al-Kharroub, Qaidat of Jabal Lahbib , and which has so far affected 90 hectares of forest cover composed of conifers and secondary plant varieties, without causing human loss

To this end, teams have been mobilized for the intervention on the ground. They are made up of elements of the Royal Armed Forces, the Royal Gendarmerie, the Auxiliary Forces and the Civil Protection, the water and forest services, the local authorities and the national development agents, and volunteers from the region.

A large amount of equipment and technical means were mobilized, in particular tank trucks, first-aid trucks, transport vehicles, ambulances and bulldozers, road sweepers and other means of extinction, in addition to 4 “Turbo-Trash” type aircraft from the Royal Gendarmerie.

A dozen aerial firefighting sorties were carried out to extinguish the blazes and fight against the fires.

In order to preserve the safety of the populations of the areas adjacent to the outbreaks, 225 people from 3 douars were evacuated and placed in secure places.

According to the provisional assessment established by the local authorities, the area affected by the fire is estimated at 90 hectares, and nearly 70 homes were completely or partially damaged, in addition to 90 heads of cattle which perished.

Land and air intervention efforts have been reinforced, with the mobilization of human, technical and logistical resources to control the fire, assure the authorities.
