ONP: 14% increase in landings of fishery products at the end of May

The National Fisheries Office (ONP) indicated that landings of marketed coastal and artisanal fishing products increased by 14% to 472,808 tonnes (T) during the first five months of this year.

In its recent report on coastal and artisanal fishing statistics in Morocco, the ONP specifies that the value of these landings exceeded 4.16 billion dirhams (MMDH), also up 14% compared to the end of May 2021.

By species, landings of crustaceans, pelagic fish, cephalopods and white fish increased respectively by 31% to 3,435 T, 19% to 396,011 T, 4% to 35,540 T and 2% to 33,326 T. On the other hand, seaweed and shellfish landings fell by 61% and 22%.

Per port, a total of 8,519 T of coastal and artisanal fishing products were landed in Mediterranean port entries at the end of May 2022, down 9%. In terms of value, these ports also recorded a decline of 9% to 285.8 million dirhams (MDH).

Conversely, landings at the ports located on the Atlantic increased, in weight, by 15% to 464,290 T. In value, these ports posted an increase of 16% to more than 3.87 billion dirhams.
