Office des Changes: MRE transfers exceed 30.5 billion dirhams at the end of April

The Foreign Exchange Office indicated that the transfers of funds made by Moroccans residing abroad (MRE) amounted to more than 30.56 billion dirhams (MMDH) at the end of April 2022 against 29.03 billion dirhams a year. previously.

In its bulletin of monthly foreign trade indicators for the month of April, the Office specifies that
These transfers are thus up by 5.3% or 1.52 billion dirhams for the same period of the past year, specifies the Office, which also reports a trade deficit in Morocco. of nearly 91.04 billion dirhams during the first four months of this year, up 43.6% compared to the end of April 2021.

This deficit results from an increase in imports (+37.8% to 230.05 billion dirhams) greater than that of exports (+34.2% to 139.01 billion dirhams). The coverage rate lost 1.6 points to 60.4%.

Travel receipts over 14.6 billion dirhams

The Office also notes that travel receipts exceeded 14.62 billion dirhams (MMDH) at the end of April 2022, against 6.54 billion dirhams during the same period of 2021.

These receipts, however, fell by 22.1% compared to the same period of 2020 and by 36.3% compared to the end of April 2019.

For their part, expenditure increased by 54.2%, standing at 4.22 billion dirhams at the end of last April, against 2.73 billion dirhams a year earlier.

Thus, the excess balance of travel, the main component of trade in services, almost tripled to +10.40 billion dirhams at the end of April 2022 against +3.81 billion dirhams at the end of April 2021.

For its part, the balance of trade in services posted a surplus up by 72.5% or 9.65 billion dirhams for the first four months of 2022.

This increase follows a 35% increase in exports (50.81 billion dirhams against 37.63 billion dirhams) greater than that of imports which is around 14.5%.
