Morocco face Liberia with the aim of reaching the final phase

The Moroccan selection will face its counterpart from Liberia, for the second day of group K of the CAN-2023 qualifiers, Monday at the Mohammed V sports complex in Casablanca, with the objective of reaching the final phase.

During this meeting, decisive to punch their ticket for the final phase, the Nationals will seek to sign their second victory in a row, after their success, last Thursday in Rabat, against South Africa (2-1).

For the teammates of Romain Saiss, this meeting will be an opportunity to repair the flaws from which the group suffers, in particular in the defensive compartment, which offers a lot of space to the opponents, without forgetting the problem of offensive inefficiency, heavily felt against the ‘South Africa.

Morocco coach Vahid Halilhodzic said after the last match, “We were expecting a tough game against a great South African team. They surprised us by scoring from their first opportunity.

Regarding the game against Liberia, he said that many players are not in top form, especially physically, and that there are also injuries that can be worrying.

“We are going to rest a bit before starting preparations for the next game against Liberia. I am waiting for a victory which can almost guarantee us a qualification for the next CAN »he pointed out.

For his part, Captain Saiss expressed his disappointment by stating: “I am not at all satisfied with the level shown by the national team, especially with regard to the defense which was not good”.

“We have to prepare for the World Cup and if the situation remains such, our mission will be complicated. We don’t want to lose all the matches that await us.”he said.

It is true that at the end of the season there is a lot of fatigue and injuries, but “We must rectify the situation well before the 2022 World Cup, because we risk conceding many goals during the World Cup”.

Thus, in front of Liberia, the Nationals must fill the gaps, especially against a Liberian team which is not likely to be within reach.

Liberia coach Peter Butler told the press that facing the Moroccan team is a source of motivation, saying his team has prepared well.

“The CAN qualifiers had several surprises and we hope to do the same in front of Morocco”he said.

At the end of the first day, Morocco is the leader of this pool (3 pts) which includes only three teams, after the suspension of Zimbabwe by the International Football Federation (FIFA).
