Decline in activity in April 2022

The results of the Bank Al-Maghrib (BAM) industry outlook survey for the month of April indicate a decline, from one month to the next, in activity after an improvement observed in March .

Thus, production would have fallen in all branches of activity with the exception of “agro-food” and “mechanics and metallurgy” where it would have rather increased, specifies the Central Bank in its monthly survey based on data collected between May 2 and May 30, 2022.

Similarly, sales would have fallen in all branches except “agro-food” and “mechanics and metallurgy” where they would have recorded stagnation and an increase respectively, the same source pointed out, adding that in these conditions, the production capacity utilization rate (TUC) would have been 72%.

Orders would have experienced a decline in all branches of activity with the exception of “agri-food” where they would have increased, notes BAM. With regard to order books, they would have been at a lower level than normal in all branches with the exception of “mechanical and metallurgy” where they would have settled at a normal level.

For the business outlook for the next three months, manufacturers remain optimistic and expect an improvement in activity, however, 19% of them have no visibility as to the evolution of production and 24% for sales.
