Relocated to Rabat, the SIEL will cost an additional 8 MDH

For its 27th edition, the International Publishing and Book Fair (Siel), scheduled for June 3 to 12, has been relocated to Rabat, at the Esplanade OLM Souissi. Another novelty, and not the least important, this year, it will cost an additional 8 million dirhams (MDH), provided by the Council of the region of Rabat-Salé-Kénitra, and which will be added to the 12 MDH granted by the Ministry of guardianship.

In the presence of 19 countries through their publishing houses, it is African literature that is honoured, after having been able to demonstrate “its ability to excel in this field, by winning several international prizes as well as by distinguishing within universities and international study and research centres”.

On the occasion, the Minister of Youth, Culture and Communication, Mohamed Mehdi Bensaid, indicated that “the choice of Africa is in line with the royal vision to strengthen and develop South-South cooperation”. .

It also reflects, he said, the Kingdom’s determination to place the continent and its human resources at the center of the interests of the African world, and the cultural dimension in Africa is of great importance, and Siel will be the opportunity to promote all forms of joint cooperation, whether at the bilateral or multilateral level, between Morocco and friendly and brotherly African countries”.

Concerning the financial contribution of the council of the RSK region, its president Rachid El Abdi, explained that “this support for Siel is only the beginning, because we have any work program for the cultural animation of the region” .

Also present, Mouhamadou Youssifou, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Cameroon, hailed this cultural event which, according to him, brings together the different publishing houses of Africa, the Arab region and the world as a whole.

This Fair aims, above all, to promote the Moroccan book, to raise public awareness of reading, to participate in the animation of the cultural field and to promote the meeting between Moroccan and foreign book professionals, he said. .
