NMD: Nadia Fettah Alaoui seeks AfDB support

The Minister of Economy and Finance, Nadia Fettah Alaoui, has requested the support of the African Development Bank (AfDB) to accompany Morocco in the implementation of the New Development Model (NMD).

During a meeting with the President of the AfDB, Akinwumi Adesina, on the sidelines of the annual meetings of the AfDB (from May 23 to 27 in Accra), the Minister welcomed the historic cooperation between Morocco and the Bank and requested the support of this institution to accompany the Kingdom in the implementation of its New Development Model and for the implementation of major projects, launched under the High Guidelines of HM King Mohammed VI, said a press release from the ministry.

For his part, the President of the Bank hailed the progress made in Morocco. He reaffirmed, on this occasion, the AfDB’s commitment to support the dynamics of the country’s economic and social reforms.

Ms. Fettah Alaoui took part, at the head of a Moroccan delegation, in the Annual Meetings of the ADB, in her capacity as Governor of the Bank for the Kingdom of Morocco.

Thus, it took part in the dialogue of Governors which is being held this year under the theme “strategic perspectives of the Bank for the next ten years”.

These 57th assemblies, which mark a return to face-to-face meetings after the virtual meetings of the past two years, are intended to be an opportunity to discuss ways to facilitate Africa’s energy transition in a context marked by climate change, the repercussions of which are already remarkable in the countries of the continent. The objective of these meetings, the theme of which aligns with the 27th United Nations Conference on Climate Change (COP27) scheduled for Egypt next November, is to discuss ways to help African countries adapt to the climate change, in particular through the mobilization of the necessary resources.

The Annual Meetings are the AfDB’s most important event. They bring together around 3,000 delegates and participants each year.

They allow the institution to take stock, with its shareholders, of the progress made and constitute a unique forum for discussion on key issues concerning the development of Africa for representatives of governments, businesses, society. civil society, think tanks, universities and the media.
