Mustapha Baitas: Blood supplies barely cover four days

Available blood supplies currently stand at just 4,200 bags, which guarantees coverage for just four days, government spokesman Mustapha Baitas warned.

Our objective, he said during the press briefing held after the Council of Government, meeting this Thursday, “is to ensure a safe national supply of blood that covers at least seven days”

“We must collect more than 1,000 blood bags per day with the aim of reaching 5,000 bags,” he said, noting that the Ministry of Health and Social Protection continues, through the National Center for blood transfusion, to launch several campaigns and initiatives to alleviate the shortage of blood.
