More than 3 million sheep and goats identified until May 16

More than 3 million sheep and goats have been identified until May 16, as part of the preparations for Aid Al-Adha 1443 (2022), announced the National Office for Sanitary Safety of Food Products (ONSSA).

This identification operation is continuing and should concern 7 million sheep and goats like the previous year, ONSSA said in a press release, noting that the Office’s veterinary services have recorded since the month of January 2022 more than 242,000 sheep and goat fattening units.

In parallel with this identification operation, ONSSA is strengthening the control and monitoring of Aid Al-Adha preparations, particularly with regard to the quality of drinking water, animal feed, drugs used in level of farms and fattening units as well as the movement of poultry droppings which is conditioned by obtaining a pass from the ONSSA veterinary services in order to follow their traceability.

It should be noted that the health situation of the national herd is good and that it is closely and permanently monitored by the ONSSA veterinary services throughout the national territory, in close collaboration with the mandated health veterinarians and the local authorities.

And to note that the vaccination operation of the national herd made it possible, as of May 16, 2022, to immunize 1,716,235 cattle against foot-and-mouth disease and to immunize 16,102,681 sheep against sheep pox and peste des petits ruminants (PPR) as well as 3,606,627 goats against PPR.
