Amman International Film Festival: Six Moroccan films in the running

The 2nd edition of the Amman International Film Festival continues until August 31 in Jordan. Six Moroccan films are in the running for the Black Iris Shield (National Flower of Jordan), best Arab feature film, best documentary film and best Arab short film.

In the feature films category, three Moroccan films compete for the prize, namely “Oliver Black” by Taoufiq Baba, “Another battle” by Mohamed Fekran and “Rue Contact” by Ismail El Iraki.

“In the house” by Karima Saidi, is competing for the Arab documentary film competition, while “The rebellious child” by Shahrazad Moumni Bardaei and “Aisha” by Zakaria Moumni are in competition for the Arab short film prize. .

Friday, the feature film “Another battle” and the documentary film “In the house” were screened in strict compliance with the precautionary measures put in place to limit the spread of Covid-19.

The film “Another Battle”, presented for the first time in the Arab world, sheds light on the issue of illegal immigration, especially among minor children, by telling the story of three children seeking to immigrate illegally to the north shore of the Mediterranean and the risks they will face to achieve their dream.

This cinematographic work is the first feature film by director Mohamed Fekran, which he has already screened in numerous international festivals.

As for the film “In the house”, it tells the story of the director’s relationship with her mother, who suffers from Alzheimer’s disease. From Brussels to Tangier, the work looks back on the journey of a diaspora family, shaped by moments of confession or silence and feelings of pain and joy.

The film won the jury prize at the 2021 Millennium International Documentary Film Festival.

The feature film “Oliver Black” tells the story of Friday, a young black African who crosses the desert to master the art of the circus in Morocco, but ends up joining the terrorist organization “Daesh”. He has won numerous national and international awards, including the Grand Prix for Best Film at the Seoul Guro International Kids Film Festival 2021, the Award for Best Actor in a Leading Role at the Tangier National Film Festival 2020, the Award for Best Director and best actor at Los Angeles Fashion Festival 2020.

The festival program includes the section called “The first and the most recent”, which traces the cinematographic journey of a seasoned director. The 2021 edition is dedicated to the Syrian director Mohamed Malas.
